When Lessons from the Past Hold You Back
Hùng, 27, owns his own company. Independent from a young age and already enjoying success, he had always attracted considerable attention from women. He previously had a four-year relationship and was preparing to marry. Young and receiving so much attention, he made mistakes that led his fiancée to leave. Devastated, he needed a year to recover, and decided that he would be completely focused on and wholeheartedly committed to his next partner.
Hùng came to ME&WE while dating a well-known social-media personality who was entirely different from his ideal of a family-oriented life partner. Their differences brought many happy surprises, but also considerable pain. He wanted help deciding to break up.
The team helped Hùng recognise that, although he knew his girlfriend was unlikely to become his wife because her work did not fit the family life he deeply wanted, he still could not leave. Part of him was overwhelmed by the surprises she brought. More importantly, he felt bound by his decision, after learning from his previous relationship, to give his next partner his wholehearted commitment. This inner conflict exhausted him, compounded by fear of reliving the year-long crisis following the breakup with his fiancée.
Ultimately, Hùng realised that he needed to end a relationship bringing more pain than happiness, with someone whose direction did not fit his future plans. The team also helped him develop the skills to get through the post-breakup crisis in seven days rather than the year he had experienced before.
