How Past Hurt Can Distort Our Understanding of Love

Hương was a young, attractive and friendly office worker. She came to Me&We in 2013, aged 26, after a profound shock: on their wedding night, her husband said he was gay and had married her only to have children and conceal this from others. Deeply shocked, she divorced after a month of trying to hold on and hoping he would change his mind. The aftermath was difficult. Thinking of herself as someone already married once, she feared judgement about being divorced so young and did not dare open her heart.

Hương sought coaching while a wonderful man was pursuing her, but she constantly doubted his love. They had broken up and reunited many times. Distressed by her inability to move forward, she sought help from the Me&We Team.

In the first session, the team helped Hương let go of shame about divorce. She realised it was not her fault and that people who truly loved her would see her for herself rather than judge a past she had not controlled.

Hương had also formed inaccurate judgements about her new boyfriend by relying on unreliable information. After two sessions, she learned to assess him more accurately. The team helped build skills to trust her judgement and open up to her new partner.

One month after completing her journey with Me&We, Hương confidently moved into a new relationship without being haunted by past barriers.
